DAVIS – The Tigers faced several top-ranked NCAA Division I opponents at the Aggie Shootout this weekend at UC Davis.
Game 1: UC Davis 19 Occidental 4
Occidental kicked off the weekend playing against the home team, No. 12 UC Davis.
After beating two top 25 teams last week, UC Davis came into the game with a lot of momentum. The Tigers had no answer for the Aggies, scoring their first goal in the second quarter after being down 8-0. Carly Zurcher was Oxy's top playmaker taking eight shots, but was only able to convert one to a goal.
Amanda Akiyama, Claudia Opperman and Monica Chernoff also scored a goal for the Tigers.
Game 2: CSU Bakersfield 14 Occidental 3
Occidental had another tough game against No. 24 CSU Bakersfield. The Tigers had several opportunities to make plays on several 6-on-5 advantage plays, but were only able to go 2 for 7.
Hi'ipoi Lee, Mirei Yasuda and Claudia Opperman each chipped in a goal for the Tigers.
Anna De Groot had seven saves for the Tigers.
Game 3: San Jose State 20 Occidental 3
The Tigers got off to a good start, only trailing 4-1 to No. 16 San Jose St. in the first quarter, but the Spartans outscored the Tigers 11-0 in the next two quarters putting the game out of reach for the Tigers.
Carly Zurcher scored twice for the Tigers. Hi'ipoi Lee added a goal and Anna De Groot made eight saves.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 0-5 on the season against some tough opponents.
Next Game: The Tigers will compete in the Tina Finali Invitational next weekend at Cal Lutheran. The first match will start Saturday at 9:15 AM against Cal State Bakersfield.
