LOS ANGELES — Dallas Boyce was sensational in the circle, going the distance for a shut out, as the Occidental softball team beat Pomona-Pitzer 5-0 at Bell Field in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Boyce, a junior from La Vegas, had no walks, three strikeouts and gave up just four hits in all seven innings pitched.
"Dallas was dominant in the circle for us," Oxy head coach Ali Haehnel said. "She did a great job of leading us by hitting her spots with precision and our defense played great behind her."
The Tigers got most of their production from the top of the lineup with their 1-4 hitters getting at least two hits each, going a combined 9 for 16.
Leadoff hitter Nyla Gatison went 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base, Kira Elliot was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, and Cora Roberts and Alexis Funaki each went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Alex Battest went 1 for 1 with two walks and a run scored.
Oxy scored one in the bottom of the first, one in the third and broke the game open with three more in the fourth.
Izzy Deatherage had the best day at the plate of the Sagehens, going 2 for 3 with a double.
Bianca Cockrell was charged with the loss, giving up four earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched as Pomona-Pitzer's starter.
Season Impact: Oxy improves to 6-13 overall, 4-7 in SCIAC play and is playing its best softball of the season. The Tigers have won four of their last six games.
The Sagehens fall to 6-15 and 3-8.
