WHITTIER — The Occidental softball team teed off for 21 hits as it beat Whittier 11-6 in Game 2 of a road doubleheader on Saturday.
Alexis Funaki led the way, going 3 for 7 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Kira Elliot went 4 for 6 and Nyla Gatison was 3 for 6. Cora Roberts, Bailey Stevens and Alex Battest each went 2 for 5. Cayman Hunter and Mackensie Priley each went 2 for 3.
Dallas Boyce started the game for the Tigers, earning the win.
Oxy fell 3-2 to the Poets in Game 1.
Tigers reliever Madison Romero pitched three scoreless inning in Game 1, surrendering only two hits.
Cora Roberts was a perfect 4 for 4 and Alex Battest went 1 for 2.
The Tigers scored first, but gave up one run in the second and two in the third.
Oxy added a run in the seventh, but couldn't push the tying run across.
Season Impact: The Tigers record is now 8-16 overall and 6-8 in SCIAC play.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action next Saturday against La Verne in a home doubleheader.
