LOS ANGELES – The Occidental softball team fell in a doubleheader against SCIAC opponent Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Bell Field on Friday.

Mackensie Priley had a strong day for Oxy, going 3 for 6 from the plate, with 2 RBIs and a stolen base.

Occidental's offense had a hard time scoring runs against one of the best pitchers in the conference in CMS's Anna Gurr. In nine innings, she had six strike outs, no earned runs and only two walks.

In Game 1, the Athenas took a 2-0 lead with Chloe Amarilla and Carly Roleder each driving in a run.

Down 2-0 in the seventh inning, the Tigers had an opportunity to come back. The CMS bats were flying and they took advantage of errors by Occidental to score five runs in the seventh inning. The Tigers were unable to dig themselves out of the hole, falling 7-0.

The Tigers took their first lead of Game 2 in the fifth inning, scoring four runs. Priley had a big single into right field, bringing home Nyla Gatison and Bailey Stevens.

The Athenas followed up with a big four-run inning of their own, including a three-run homer by Amarilla.

Gurr came in for the next two innings to seal the victory.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 7-11 in conference.

CMS improves to 14-4.

Next Game: The Tigers play a doubleheader at Chapman tomorrow. First game starts at 12 PM.
