Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES -- Bailey Stevens hit a three-run homer as the Occidental softball team beat Cal Lutheran 4-1 at Bell Field in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Tigers fell 5-1 in Game 2.
Stevens, a sophomore catcher from Elk Grove, connected on an inside screwball, driving it over the left-field wall. The shot capped a four-run inning that put the Tigers in control of the first game game.
"Bailey has been hitting the ball well all week," Oxy head coach Ali Haehnel said. "She showed great discipline at the plate and waited for her pitch to hit."
Alexis Funaki doubled to right earlier in the inning, bringing in Kira Elliott for the Tigers' first run.
Cal Lutheran scored its run in the top half of the fourth on an error.
Dallas Boyce pitched a complete game for the Tigers, allowing just the one unearned run, with a pair of strikeouts. She gave up five hits, but had no walks.
"Dallas was meticulous about hitting her spots today," Haehnel said. "She maximized her array of pitches and did a great job of keeping the Regals off balance."
Alex Battest went 2 for 3 for Oxy, and Elliot, Cora Roberts and Nyla Gatison all went 1 for 3. Natalie Glover was 1 for 1 with a double.
Game 2: Cal Lutheran 5, Occidental 1
The Regals rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth inning, getting a comfortable cushion in what was mostly a pitcher's dual up until that point.
Olivia Leyva had a two-RBI single and Amanda Lewis hit a sac fly to bring in another run.
Oxy scored its run on an RBI-double by Stevens in the third inning. Both Stevens and Elliott finished 2 for 3 for the Tigers.
Madison Romero pitched all seven innings and was charged with the loss.
The win went to Olivia Serrano, who threw five scoreless innings.
Season Impact: The Tigers record goes to 11-21 overall and 9-13 in SCIAC. Oxy sits in fifth place, trailing the fourth-and-final SCIAC playoff spot by two games in the win column, with six games left on its schedule.
Next Game: The Tigers and Regals play the second of their doubleheader at 2:20 p.m. at Bell Field.
