LOS ANGELES — The Occidental softball team battled through the rain and an earlier than normal start time in a pair of games against La Verne on Saturday.
Oxy fell 10-0 in five innings in Game 1 and 6-2 in Game 2.
Mackensie Priley knocked in Oxy's first run in Game 2 with an RBI-single and then Cora Roberts hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Natalie Glover.
Dallas Boyce and Madison Romero were both solid in the second game. Boyce gave up one earned run in three innings and Romero went four innings with a pair of earned runs.
Oxy struggled with some hitting woes all morning against high-quality La Verne pitching. Jiana Rojo pitched four innings and allowed just a pair of hits for the win in Game 1 and Katherine Navarro didn't give up an earned run in five innings of work for the win in Game 2.
The Tigers fall to 5-9-2 and 1-6-1 in SCIAC play.
La Verne improves to 11-1 and 7-1.
The doubleheader was normally scheduled for noon, but moved up to 9 a.m. to squeeze the games in before expected rain.
Oxy is back in action at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday.
