Oxy Loses One-Run Games at No. 11 CMS

CLAREMONT — The Occidental softball team fell in a pair of one-run games at No. 11 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.

Oxy got the tying run to second base in the top of the seventh before falling 8-7 in Game 1, and tied the game in the seventh in Game 2 before falling 4-3.

Its the second time this year that the Tigers have given the Athenas a scare. The teams played two close games at Oxy earlier this season that weren't decided until the late innings.

Delaney Russell led the Tigers in Game 1, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. She also started the game and pitched all six innings. Natalie Glover went 2 for 4 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

In Game 2, Nyla Gatison, Kira Elliott and Alexandra Olkein each had two hits.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 4-31 overall and 3-21 in SCIAC.

Next Game: Oxy plays its final home games of the season on Friday against Whittier. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Tigers will finish the season at Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
