Box Score Santa Clarita, CA — The Occidental women's volleyball team faced a strong opponent on Friday. The Master's College beat the Tigers in 3 - 0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-19) on their home court.
The Tigers had a fighting spirit throughout the match, coming back from behind and also taking the lead at one point in the third set. However, they were unable to hold back the pin hitters from the Mustangs.
Sophomore Lizzy Kerman was Oxy's kill leader and stayed aggressive the entire match. Senior Sydney Takauye was kept busy with the Master's offense and had amazing digs all night, as well as three aces. Bethany Heitland, senior, came off the bench and with tough serves and key digs for the Tigers. The front row was greatly aided by Aniya Hawthorne, freshman, who controlled the middle with smart attacks and tips over the net.
Next Game: The Tigers compete next on Friday, September 10 at the Spike It Up Classic. They face Belhaven at 12:00 p.m. and Colorado College at 5:00 p.m.
