Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental baseball team won 9-5 in convincing fashion over the Biola University Eagles on Saturday afternoon in front of a large home crowd.
The Tigers offense had a strong 3rd inning as Second Baseman Michael Ingram and Designated Hitter Garrett Palme had back to back RBIs to give Oxy the 2-1 lead. The Oxy defense made some big plays as well, particularly in the 5th inning when a 6-4-3 double play prevented Biola from scoring despite having the bases loaded. After trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers' Left Fielder Antonio Andrade hit a two run homer to give Oxy the permanent lead. The Oxy bats stayed hot in the 7th inning as the Tigers scored 4 runs to go up 9-4.
5 Tigers took the mound on Saturday combining for 12 strikeouts. Jon Thoren earned the win with three strikeouts and only allowing one run. Jack Winterbauer led the team with four strikeouts while also only allowing one run.
Antonio Andrade led the Tigers with 4 hits as 7 other Tigers recorded a hit each.
Next Game: Oxy will host Pacific University next weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday and the final game on Sunday.
