Los Angeles, CA — The Occidental Men's Water Polo team faced the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Friday in the semi-finals of the SCIAC tournament. The Tigers started off strong with a goal from Christian Guillaume (Ventura, CA) assisted by Kellen Radtkey (Santa Barbara, CA). Then, Keegan Klein (Bellevue, WA) scored on a powerplay with help from Shea Grosz (Lafayette, CA). Grosz found the back of the net with help from Radtkey. In the second quarter, Guillaume fired another shot into the goal on a powerplay, with assistance from Grosz. Next, Jarrod Norton (Chula Vista, CA) and Guillaume deposited perfect shots into the cage with both assisted by Radtkey. Then, Hayden Comerford (Honolulu, HI) scored next with the assist from yet again, Radtkey. After gathering at halftime, the Tigers came back stronger than ever, with Guillaume scoring off the bat, after getting a good pass from Nate Fisher (LaGrange, IL). Then came Cian Concannon (Mill Valley, CA) on a powerplay with help from Klein. Comerford struck next, with a goal from the perfect angle, followed by a nice goal from Fisher. In the last quarter Concannon scored again on a powerplay with help from Grosz. Then, Fisher found the back of the net. At the end of the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 13-13, so the teams went into their first overtime period.
In the fifth quarter, Grosz was the first to score with help from Radtkey. In the sixth quarter, Klein fired a shot with help from Fisher on a powerplay. The teams were still tied at the end of these overtime periods, which led the Tigers into sudden death. After a long, intense game, they fell to Cal Lu after the Kingsmen scored in the eighth period. On defense, the Tigers played a phenomenal game, with seven steals and ten exclusions drawn. Final Score: 16-15 Cal Lu.
Dillon Goldsmith led Cal Lu with four goals.
