Los Angeles, CA — Occidental men's basketball team was on the road in Lancaster against the West Coast Baptist Eagles on Friday.
Oxy got off to a strong start by playing good defense and making the shots that they were able to find on offense.The Tigers started off on a 13-0 run to start the game that was capped off by an Aiden Williams made 3-pointer.Â
Oxy was up by 17 after Sloan Ireland made a nice basket in the paint to make the score 22-5 with 11 minutes remaining in the 1st half. West Coast Baptist put some good possessions together to make it a 12 point game, but Chase Miller, Jacob Koretz and Bernard Cassidy all made jumpers on the straight Oxy possessions for a quick 6-0 offensive run for the Tigers.Â
The Eagles made 3-pointers on back to back possessions and finished the half on a 15-6 scoring run to get the lead down to 9 points going into halftime. With more 3-point shooting to start the 2nd half, the Eagles had the lead down to 6 early in the half.
The Tigers responded well with another 13-0 run to get the lead back to 19 points. Chase Miller was on fire for Oxy, scoring 7 of the points on the offensive run. The closest the Eagles would be able to cut the lead down to again was 9 points with 5 minutes to go in the game.Â
To close the game out, Bernard Cassidy had a nice basket in the paint and Henry Wilson followed with a made 3-pointer before Cassidy scored another basket in the paint on the following possession. Miller would score his 24th and 25th points of the game to close the game out with a made basket with 35 seconds left.
Oxy would secure a win by the score of 77-63 to improve to 8-0 on the season. To go along with his 25 points, Miller also grabbed 12 rebounds for the double-double. Aiden Williams and Bernard Cassidy each scored 12 points as well.Â
Henry Wilson nearly had a double-double as well with 11 rebounds and 9 points. The Tigers will look to continue their strong play against the Cal Miramar Fighting Falcons on Sunday, December 17th at 4pm in Rush Gym.
