Tigers Beat the Sagehens in Oxy/Pomona-Pitzer Dual Meet, 128-117

Los Angeles, CA – In the annual dual meet between the Tigers and Sagehens, the Tigers pulled through and got to take home the banner that has been passed between the two colleges for 12 years. After many weeks of work, the win was very rewarding and sets a good tone for the rest of the season. Every athlete competed to the best of their ability and showed off the progress they have made. 

The women's team scored 64 points against Pomona. Francesca Candelieri placed second in the 100m dash (13.36). Eliza Hawley, Tia Akasaki, and Alexa Poremba swept the 400m dash in first (1:00.77), second (1:05.56), and third (1:06.42), respectively. Maimai Wong earned second in the 100m hurdles (19.47). Paige Villanueva placed third in the 300m hurdles (59.14). The women's 4x100 (52.37), 4x400 (4:22.86), and 4x1600 (22:29.16) relay teams placed first in their respective events. On the field, Bridget Ferguson won the high jump with a mark of 4'9". Rylee Cockett followed in third with the same mark. Karis Palomino won the pole vault with 8'6". Emily Dolida earned second (14'7.25") in the long jump with Candelieri right behind in third (14'5.75"). Gabriella Knutsen placed first in discus (105'6") and shot (34'4") and second in javelin (87'6"). Keena Brescia placed second in shot (30'11.75") and third in discus (95'6") and hammer (100'3").

The men's team also scored 64 points against Pomona. Jacob Torres beat his own 300m hurdle record (now 38.68) he set last year and placed first in both 300m and 110m hurdles (15.66).   Jonah Magill followed Torres in second for the 300m hurdles (41.39). Harrison Williams followed Torres in the 110m hurdles in second (16.96) and found himself in third (43.04) for the 300m hurdles. Chris Haliburton placed first (11.21) in the 100m dash followed by Jack Spencer in third (11.32). Nick Leon placed first (51.27) in the 400m dash along with Toby Searcy-Jorgenson who came in third (53.84). Oxy took home the win in the 4x100 (44.05), 4x400 (3:27.55), and 4x1600 (19:25.83) relays. On the field, Nagosa Ateka and Darius Harvey placed first (5'6") and second (5'1"), respectively in the high jump. Matthew Avery won the pole vault (8'11.75"). Justin Edwards placed third (19'6.75") in the long jump. Sam Berger placed second in the hammer (109'7") and javelin (133'4").

The next meet for the Tigers will be the Pomona-Pitzer All Collegiate All-Comers on Saturday, February 18 at Pomona-Pizter. Additionally, some Tigers will be heading back to Arizona to compete in the NAU Tune Up indoor meet on Friday, February 17.
