LOS ANGELES — Occidental dropped both games of a doubleheader against the La Verne Leopards on Saturday at Bell Field.
In the first game, Occidental's only run came in the first inning, while La Verne scored one run each in the second and sixth innings, securing the narrow victory.
Occidental took an early lead in the first inning when
Alysha Wagner singled down the right-field line, advancing to third on a fielding error.
Sophia Siu then delivered an RBI single, bringing Wagner home for the game's first run, giving the Tigers the early lead.
La Verne responded in the second inning with a triple and a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1.
In the sixth inning, La Verne took the lead with another sacrifice fly that brought home the go-ahead run.
The game concluded with Occidental unable to add any more runs, resulting in a final score of 2-1 in favor of La Verne.
Lehua Acoba pitched seven innings, allowing only three hits and striking out four batters while maintaining a WHIP of .57.
Sam Palacio contributed with a hit, a stolen base, and was hit by a pitch, reaching base twice. Wagner collected a hit and scored a run, while also executing two assists from the shortstop position.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Tigers fell by a score of 6-2. Occidental took an early lead in the first inning when
Sophia Siu singled and scored on
Kadence Bernard's triple to left center, making it 1-0.
In the second inning,
Sam Palacio reached on an error and later scored on a double by
Riko Hibino, increasing the lead to 2-0. La Verne responded in the third inning by cutting the lead down to one with a sacrifice fly. La Verne tied the game in the fifth inning with another sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 2-2. The score remained tied at 2-2 after the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, La Verne took the lead with three runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single, pushing their lead to 5-2. Occidental trailed 5-2 after six innings.
La Verne added an insurance run in the seventh inning with an RBI single, concluding the game with a 6-2 victory over Occidental.
Kadence Bernard posted a triple and collected one RBI in the game.
Riko Hibino doubled and drove in a run.
Jacynda Lindsay pitched five innings, allowing three hits and striking out four batters.
The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, March 1st with a doubleheader against Pacific University. First pitches are scheduled for 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
