Softball drops series opener at Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Occidental (4-24, 1-12 SCIAC) fell to Pomona-Pitzer (14-18, 7-6 SCIAC) with a final score of 6-0 at Wig Beach Field.  

Occidental, limited to three hits, could not break through against Pomona-Pitzer's pitching, which recorded a complete-game shutout.

Occidental faced Pomona-Pitzer in a game marked by strong defensive plays and limited scoring opportunities. In the third inning, Pomona-Pitzer took the lead when Kylie Liu homered, bringing the score to 1-0 in favor of Pomona-Pitzer.

The fifth inning saw Pomona-Pitzer extend its lead. Sadie Huryn and Liu both reached base, setting the stage for Claire Sefkow's double to right center, which drove in two runs. This play increased Pomona-Pitzer's lead to 3-0.

Pomona-Pitzer further solidified its position in the sixth inning. A triple by Yuri Song brought in one run, followed by a single from Natalie Murguia that added two more runs, bringing the score to 6-0.

Occidental's offense was held scoreless throughout the game, with Pomona-Pitzer maintaining its lead to secure a 6-0 victory.

Rachel Rotunno collected two hits in her appearance, providing consistent at-bats. Riko Hibino added a hit and successfully stole a base, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Jacynda Lindsay pitched a complete game, recording one strikeout over 6 innings, despite allowing six earned runs. Jordan Lebsock's defensive skills were on display as she caught a base stealer, preventing a potential scoring opportunity.
