ARCADIA, Calif. – Men's golf tied for third at the SCIAC Championships after shooting 12-over, 864 through three rounds at Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia, wrapping up the tournament on Saturday, April 25.
Â
Owen Wolak led the way for the Tigers, finishing the tournament in ninth place, with a two-under finish on day three.
Â
Miles Eastman had the tournament's only hole-in-one. The senior ended his collegiate golf career with the ace on par-three hole four in the third round.
Â
TRENDS
Â
The course played tough on par threes with only one player shooting under par on the course's shortest holes, but
Hayden Thill and
Amaan Kanji were two of the seven-most successful players, shooting just one and two over respectively on those holes.
Â
Wolak was the only player through three rounds to have two eagles and was five under on par fives.
Â
DAY 1
Â
After round one, the Tigers sat in second out of seven SCIAC schools. It was a career day for Kanji who was tied for the lead after the round. Kanji was on fire, seven-under par through the first 15 holes, before a pair of bogeys on the back nine netted him a five-under, 66.
Â
The rest of the lineup stayed consistent, helping Oxy to a three-over par day.
Owen Wolak and
Miles Eastman were each two-over par on the day. Wolak's day was headlined by an eagle on par-five hole nine – a hole he eagled on the final day as well.
Â
DAY 2
Â
Pomona-Pitzer leapt the Tigers in the standings after posting an 11-under par round as a team, but Oxy remained in the top-half of the field with a one-under par day to sit just two over in the tournament.
Â
Wolak, who shot back-to-back days of two-under golf to finish the tournament, led his squad.
Hayden Thill, who tied Kanji for 14
th place after three rounds, saw his best on day two, also shooting two under. Thill, like all five Tigers, opened the round with a birdie on one, then hit the turn at two-under. A bogey on 17 forced an even back nine for the first year.
Â
Daniel Rowe was the third Tiger to shoot under par on the day and fourth of the tournament.
Â
DAY 3
Â
The cold, windy conditions proved difficult for the Tigers who held their spot in third nearly all day.
Â
Oxy sat in a tie for third with two golfers to go as the day came to a close. Wolak chipped in for birdie on 18, notching back-to-back birdies to close the round. However, a Kanji bogey on 17 kept Oxy out of sole possession of third place at the end.
Â
The tournament was one of the best in Oxy program history and the first time this season at either SCIAC #1 or #2 that the Tigers finished ahead of Redlands or Cal Lutheran.
