LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Occidental catcher Thomas Munch and centerfielder and closer Griffen Rogers were both honored with their first-career First Team All-Conference nod, being selected as First Team All-SCIAC. This is the first all-conference honor for Rogers and second for Munch, who earned Second Team honors in the 2025 season.
Rogers and Munch are the first Tiger to be named to the first team since the 2022 season. Helping the Tigers to their winningest season since the 2019 season, the sophomore southpaw and junior backstop contributed in multiple facets of the game. Each appearing in 39 games with 38 starts, both Tigers were consistent forces at the top of the Oxy lineup.
Munch led the team in hits (55) and RBIs (31) while slashing .377/.483/.534 (batting average/on-base %/slugging %). The catcher scored 41 runs on the season while walking an impressive 31 times and slugging four home runs. Rogers sported the third-highest batting average on the team thanks to his 51 hits on the year, while also scoring 44 runs and driving in 20 runs while slashing .372/.455/.467. Reaching base nearly half the time, Rogers also went 24 for 24 in stolen base attempts on the season while Munch stole seven bases in eight attempts.
Also contributing on the mound, Rogers had the third most saves in the nation with seven, while also picking up three wins over 28.2 innings pitched and sporting a .224 batting average against. The lefty closer also missed bats at an impressive rate, striking out 39 batters in his 18 appearances on the hill.
In addition to contributing both offensively and on the mound, Rogers saw time at both first base and in center field throughout the season, providing even more value through his versatility. Committing only one error in 150 chances and recording 138 putouts and 11 assists, Rogers sported a .993 fielding percentage on the season. Munch was a consistent presence behind the plate for the Tigers, working with the coaching staff to lead the pitching staff, while sporting a .980 fielding percentage, throwing out seven would-be base-stealers and allowing only two passed balls all year.
Now heading into their junior and senior seasons in the 2027 season, the two 1st-team selections will look to continue to help the Tigers win baseball games in multiple ways in the following seasons.
