LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 1, 2008) – In
his first collegiate start Alex Bukac
connected for a two-run homerun and in game two
of the day the leftie was 3-3 with three runs, but the Tigers
dropped a pair, 11-3 and 9-5, to defending Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Pomona-Pitzer at
Anderson Field today.
The second game was scoreless through two and
a half when Bukac led off with a single and scored three batters
later on one of Seth Goss's
four hits in the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. PP responded
in the top of the fourth as Zach Mandelblatt connected for the
first of two homeruns in the game.
The fifth inning ended with the
Sagehens' leftfielder being thrown out at the plate on a one
hopper from Bukac to Oxy catcher Adam
Franks.
Knotted at three in the seventh Bukac again
led off the inning with a single. Daniel Kelley
and Goss hit back-to-back doubled pushing another pair of runs
across to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
The Sagehens wouldn't go away so easily,
sending 10 men to the plate in the ninth inning, scoring six runs
on five hits, including a bases clearing triple and a two-run
homerun.
Game one was one-sided as PP jumped out to an
early 3-0 lead and cruised to an 11 run victory. Spencer
Woolwine doubled to get things started for the Tigers in
the fifth and scored on a single by Kelley before Bukac launched
his first collegiate homerun.
Goss finished the day 6-8 with three doubles,
three RBIs and nine total bases. Kelley, who also had three RBIs,
and Woolwine each gathered two hits.
The Tigers fall to 4-8, 1-6 in SCIAC play.
Oxy will take the diamond again tomorrow as
the Tigers host the Golden Eagles from La Sierra for a
double-header starting at 11:00 a.m. The teams will play two
seven-inning games.
