LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 29, 2008) – Momentum from
yesterday's road win over the California Lutheran University
Kingsmen did not carry over to today as the Tigers fell by 14-3 and
6-4 margins on Anderson Field in a Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double header.
In game one alone the Kingsmen collected 21 hits as the Tigers
bats were held to just seven hits and three runs. Despite
out-hitting the Kingsmen in game two, 9-7, Oxy fell 6-4 behind a
complete game, 10 strike-out performance by CLU's Alex
Casillas.
Brooks Belter threw 7.0 strong innings for the
Tigers, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three.
Senior centerfielder Matt Andersen sparked the
Tigers offense with a 2-for-3 game, including a game-tying fourth
inning two-run opposite field homerun. Richie
Veihl was 2-for-2 while Jason Jebbia and
Glenn Gray connected for two hits apiece, each
adding a stolen base.
In game one Seth Goss picked up two hits,
driving in one and stealing a base. Jebbia stole a base in game one
as well, scoring one of the three Tiger runs. Patrick
Sarkissian connected for a solo homerun in the second
inning.
Occidental falls to 10-15, 2-7 in SCIAC play while Cal Lutheran
improves to 10-13-1, 4-4 SCIAC.
The Tigers will host Cal State University San Marcos on
Saturday, April 5 for a single game beginning at 1:00 p.m. in
non-conference play at Anderson Field.
