LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2010) – After falling 6-4 in
the opening day of a twin bill at Anderson Field, the Occidental
College Tigers and Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen will be back on
the diamond Sunday at noon to finish game two of the double dip,
game three of the series, after darkness put a stop to the game
after seven innings this afternoon. CLU currently leads 8-4.
In today's first game, CLU got off to a hot start with a
two-run homerun off to left center off the bat of Jordan Ott in the
first, followed by a solo shot to right field by Chris Kertz to
start off the third. Cal Lutheran got another pair when Landon
Smith singled up the middle to plate two.
Oxy was held scoreless through six innings, before they lit up
the scoreboard with three in the bottom of the seventh.
Tyler Eyrich sparked a rally with a single before
Daniel Kelley, Glenn Gray and Brent
Wunner followed suit connecting for four consecutive hits.
After a fielders choice, in which Wunner was tagged out at second,
Jason Jebbia also singled, driving in the third
run of the frame, cutting the CLU lead to 5-3.
Each team added a run in the ninth.
Oxy starter Brooks Belter,
tossed 8.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking
out five. Jebbia came on to retire the final two batters, walking
the first, but forcing a ground ball on the next pitch to end any
threat.
Robbie Selden got the win for the Kingsmen, throwing 6.2
innings, scattering nine hits, allowing three runs. Byron Minnich
came on in the ninth and earned the save for CLU.
Cal Lutheran (6-3, 1-1 SCIAC) and Occidental (4-5, 1-1 SCIAC)
will reconvene tomorrow at noon on Anderson Field to complete game
two, which was halted, with CLU leading 8-4 after seven innings,
due to darkness.
