PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2010) – Today the Tigers kicked
off a weekend series with the Beavers from Caltech down the road in
Pasadena where Occidental College earned an 11-4 Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory. Freshman
Cory Popham tossed just 3.0 innings, but earned
his third victory in as many tries. The righty struck out four and
walked just one as he allowed no runs.
Offensively the Black and Orange crossed the plate in every odd
inning, pushing one across in the first and two in the third before
posting three-run innings in both the fifth and seventh. Oxy tacked
on a pair more in the ninth to add to their cushion.
Stephen Hilliard led the attack today with a
3-5 day including the only Oxy extra base hit of the day when he
connected for an RBI double. Overall he drove in a pair and scored
three times. Jason Jebbia was 2-5 with four stolen
bases and he crossed the plate twice.
Defensively Daniel Kelley had seven touches,
five assists and two putouts, in seven innings at second base.
Jebbia had four assists and two putouts at shortstop for the
Tigers.
Occidental will host Caltech for a double-header tomorrow at
11:00 a.m. at Anderson Field.
