Tigers take game one of weekend series

PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2010) – Today the Tigers kicked off a weekend series with the Beavers from Caltech down the road in Pasadena where Occidental College earned an 11-4 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory. Freshman Cory Popham tossed just 3.0 innings, but earned his third victory in as many tries. The righty struck out four and walked just one as he allowed no runs.

Offensively the Black and Orange crossed the plate in every odd inning, pushing one across in the first and two in the third before posting three-run innings in both the fifth and seventh. Oxy tacked on a pair more in the ninth to add to their cushion.

Stephen Hilliard led the attack today with a 3-5 day including the only Oxy extra base hit of the day when he connected for an RBI double. Overall he drove in a pair and scored three times. Jason Jebbia was 2-5 with four stolen bases and he crossed the plate twice.

Defensively Daniel Kelley had seven touches, five assists and two putouts, in seven innings at second base. Jebbia had four assists and two putouts at shortstop for the Tigers.

Occidental will host Caltech for a double-header tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Field.
