LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 28, 2010) – After scoring 11
runs in game one to win 11-1 in an abbreviated seven inning game,
the Occidental College Tigers put up 11 runs in the bottom of the
first inning of game two as they cruised to a 14-2 victory over
Caltech at Anderson Field this afternoon.
Occidental came away with 32 hits during the course of the
afternoon and 17 different players recorded one or more. Thirteen
of those men crossed the plate. Jason Jebbia
scored five times and Logan Allen, Stephen Hilliard,
Malachi Krishok, Anthony Salsedo, Daniel Kelley, Andrew Millian,
Josh Throckmorton and Pedro Aldape each
scored twice. The Tigers were 20-for-20 on the base paths today as
well.
The offensive attack was led by Millian, a freshman who was
3-for-7 in which he connected for a trio of triples, driving in six
runs and scoring twice. Jebbia went 5-for-6 with three RBIs while
Stephen Hilliard was 4-for-6 with four RBIs.
Jebbia hit a homerun to dead center and Hilliard came away with two
doubles.
After Brooks Belter locked up the game one
victory, striking out five. Hilliard took home the win in the final
game of the weekend, tossing 2.0 innings after Jebbia started on
the hill with a pair of scoreless innings. Aldape struck out four
in 2.0 innings of work for Oxy today as well.
The Black and Orange played error-free baseball. Brent
Wunner had 12 putouts behind the plate and Aldape had 11
at first base. Jebbia made six and a pair of assists. Tyler
Eyrich was responsible for four putouts and an assist and
Hilliard made four assists and a putout, which came by way of an
over-the-fence catch on a foul pop-up near third base. Throckmorton
had three assists at second base for the Tigers today.
Occidental (7-6, 4-2 SCIAC) will the University of Redlands
(9-2, 7-2) on Friday for a single game beginning at 2:30 p.m.
before the teams reconvene at The Yard at UR for a double-header on
Saturday with first pitch slated for 11:00 a.m.
