PASADENA, Calif. (April 17, 2010) – Fifteen runs on 17
hits were just what the Occidental College baseball team needed on
Saturday afternoon at Caltech as they got back on track with a 15-5
victory after falling Friday afternoon to Cal Lutheran University,
7-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
play.
Five different players had multi-hit games with Jacob
Lee and Dale Garrett each collecting
three-hit apiece. The duo were 3-for-3 and 3-for-4, respectively,
each driving in a run and scoring twice. Garrett, Daniel
Kelley and Tyler Eyrich each doubled in
the game.
Also recording two-hit days were Logan
Allen, Casey Harms and Jacob
Coleman. Oxy second baseman Kyle
Spaulding reached base five times, scoring three runs for
the Black and Orange. Anthony Salsedo started in
centerfield, singling and walking, scoring both times he reached.
On the hill Andrew Millian got the win after
throwing three innings, scattering three hits, allowing no runs and
striking out a pair. Jacob Blodgett and
Ross Pomerantz tossed an inning apiece and did not
allow a hit between them. Pomerantz struck out two of the three
batters he faced.
Friday afternoon, the Kingsmen snapped a four-game Tigers'
win streak at Ullman Stadium on George “Sparky”
Anderson Field.
Oxy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but were
unable to score again until the ninth while CLU put up a pair in
the first inning, pushing the ultimate winning run across the plate
in the third. The Kingsmen scored four runs in the eighth, three by
way of a long ball off the bat of leadoff batter Chris Hertz.
Eyrich kept the Tigers in the game, allowing three runs (two
earned) on nine hits in 6.2 innings, but was tagged with the loss.
Occidental (12-21, 9-14 SCIAC) will return to Anderson Field
tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch against the University of
Redlands.
