WHITTIER, Calif. (April 24, 2010) – In the second game of the weekend, Occidental College posted a 6-3 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road victory over Whittier College behind a complete game performance from junior Ross Pomerantz.
The southpaw allowed just five hits and walked one while striking out seven. Two of the three runs he allowed came via a fifth inning triple while the final run of the game was a solo homerun in the ninth.
Oxy jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth when the Tigers strung together four hits, which included a pair of doubles by Logan Allen and Stephen Hilliard. Glenn Gray drove in Allen for the first run of the game before Daniel Kelley singled in a pair.
Up 3-2 in the eighth, the Black and Orange added two more runs as Kevin Ozaki and Allen each crossed the plate after singling.
The Tigers would add an insurance run in the ninth via an RBI single off the bat of catcher Brent Wunner, which drove in Kelley who led off the inning with a single.
Allen, Kelly and Pedro Aldape each had multi hit games. While Kelley drove in a pair and scored once, Allen scored twice. Gray and Casey Harms each stole a base in the win.
Occidental (14-23, 11-15 SCIAC) returns to Eagle Rock where the Tigers will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (20-17, 14-12) at Anderson Field on Friday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the final home game of 2010, Oxy will recognize two seniors.
