WHITTIER, Calif. (April 9, 2010) – For the second time in
as many games, the Occidental College Tigers returned to Eagle Rock
with a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road
victory. Today the Black and Orange put up 14 runs on 16 hits and
used seven Poets' errors to maintain a lead throughout the
game.
Oxy got off to a hot start, with three in the first inning
behind four hits. The Poets, however, answered with two of their
own in the bottom of the frame.
The difference in the game came in the third when Oxy sent 11
men to the plate, scoring seven times with two-outs. Every player
in the lineup reached base in the inning and they came away with
six hits and a walk.
Transfer Stephen Hilliard picked up his third
win of the season on the hill, tossing 6.0 innings, striking out
four. He aided his own cause at the plate going 4-for-5 with a
triple, three RBIs and a run scored. Glenn Gray
also had a solid day going 3-for-4 scoring a trio of runs for the
Tigers. Logan Allen, Casey Harms
and Malachi Krishok all had two hits apiece as
well with Allen and Harms each driving in two. Allen, Harms,
Brent Wunner and Krishok each added a stolen base
in the game.
Once Hilliard handed the ball over, Brooks
Belter threw 2.0 innings, facing just six batters and
striking out three before Jacob Blodgett came on
in the ninth to strike out a pair.
Defensively the Tigers committed just one error. Kevin
Ozaki finished with six touches at second base, three
assists and three putouts. Allen was responsible for four assists
and a putout at shortstop.
Tomorrow Occidental (9-20, 6-13 SCIAC) will host the Poets
(7-24, 4-15) for a double dip at Anderson Field with first pitch of
game one scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
