LOS ANGELES, Calif — If you said one team would win in four games before the match between Occidental College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripss on Saturday, most people would have put No. 25 Oxy down for a 3-1 win.
That was the opposite of what happened at Rush Gymnasium, as the Tigers (11-5, 4-2) were the recipients of a stunning SCIAC loss to the Athenas (9-7, 4-2).
"This loss is about as disappointing as they come," Occidental coach Heather Collins said. "We were not the team we're capable of being tonight and we lost because of it."
After winning their last four of five games, the Tigers appeared to be hitting their stride just in time for conference play.
The Athenas halted their momentum with a 25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory
Logan Boyer-Hayse had 16 kills and 10 digs, Kasey Rose contributed 11 and 12, and Jessie Altman served up 46 assists to lead both teams.
"We obviously didn't play to the best of our ability," said Collins. "There is no excuse for it. CMS played better than we did tonight. We will learn from this and move on.
The Tigers take the court again on Tuesday October 4th at the University of Redlands. Live stats from the game can be followed here.
