Box Score LOS ANGELES – All thirteen Tigers saw the floor and five different players recorded at least five kills as the Occidental College volleyball team hit .344 and swept Caltech 25-11, 25-13, 25-20 at Rush Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Stephanie Gann led the way with a match-high nine kills on 13 attempts (.692) to go along with three service aces.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking the first two sets by double digits.
Oxy then emptied the bench in the third set.
Elise DeCarli and Monique Gibbs saw action against the Beavers for the second time this year while fellow freshman Tiareh Cruz continued her role as first newcomer off the bench, halving senior setter Jessie Altman's assist count with 10.
Contributions from underclassmen was the main theme of the night, as sophomore Kandace Korver — who came out of the match leading the SCIAC in service aces per set (0.54) — added five more to her tally before putting on the libero jersey in place of senior Madyson Cassidy in the third set. Cassidy was 11th in the nation in digs per set coming into the contest.
Freshman middle Natalie Dwulet and sophomore outside hitter Dana Michels combined for 14 kills and 10 digs while a veteran presence was felt from senior Alyssa Mort and junior Megan Olayinka, who registered eight and seven kills, respectively.
Caltech's kills leader Catherine Jamshidi matched Gann's production on the evening with nine kills of her own (.381), which she complemented with five digs.
The Tigers (12-7, 6-3 SCIAC) are back in action on Friday, traveling to La Verne for a 7:30 p.m. serve.
