Women's Volleyball Loses at No. 3 Cal Lutheran

Box Score

THOUSAND OAKS — In the past few years, the Occidental College women's volleyball team has had lots of success playing at Cal Lutheran.

Since 2011, Oxy has gone 14-6 in the Gilbert Sports Arena, including wins over Cal Lutheran in the 2011 SCIAC Tournament Championship and Pacific Lutheran in the First Round of that year's NCAA playoffs.

But this year, the No. 3 Regals are close to untouchable and Oxy couldn't muster up the same magic that has led them to an impressive record against very good competition in preseason and postseason tournaments in the defending SCIAC champs house.

Despite 10 kills from Stephanie Gann on .174 hitting, 23 assists from Jessie Altman and 17 digs from Madyson Cassidy, the Tigers fell in three sets to Cal Lutheran on Tuesday, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18.

Allie Eason had a game-high 12 kills and Kylie McLogan added nine for the Regals.

Cal Lutheran made less blocking and receiving errors and hit .248 to Oxy's .089.

The Tigers (14-8, 8-4 SCIAC) fall to fourth place in the SCIAC standings, a half game behind Chapman and a full game behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Cal Lutheran wins its 16th match in a row, improving to 11-0 in conference play. The Regals only loss this year was to NAIA Division I Westmont on Sept. 10.

Oxy can put pressure on CMS and Chapman to win by beating Pomona-Pitzer in its next match this Friday at Rush Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
