LOS ANGELESLogan Allen (Atascadero) went 1 for 2 with two runs scored, Jonathon Wong (Grizzly Flats) made a fully-extended diving catch that saved a few runs and the Occidental College baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 3-1 win over No. 23 Bridgewater College at Anderson Field on Monday.

Allen was on base three times, with a single and a pair of walks. The senior shortstop crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to right field by Pedro Aldape (Sherman Oaks) in the bottom of the third inning and again on a ground out by Victor Munoz (La Verne) in the fifth.

Scott Hong (Los Angeles) walked, stole second and third base, and scored on an infield single by Johnathan Brooks (Huntington Beach) for Oxy's (14-2) first run in the third.

But the play of the game came with a glove in left field by Wong. With one on and one out in the sixth, Wong charged a shallow fly ball at full speed and made a diving catch for the inning's second out. Derrik Walling doubled through the right side under Aldape's glove at first base later in the inning, scoring Jonathon Mason for the Eagles' (9-2) only run. Had Wong not made the catch it would have been at least a two-run inning with the potential for more.

Facing a similar situation, with one on and one out in the seventh, Oxy got its second key defensive play when Allen doubled up Spencer Steele on a routine pop up to short that ended the inning.

Oxy threw five pitchers, resting arms while getting a lot of guys work in the non-conference game during spring break. Joseph Kling (Kirksville, Mo.), John Ugai (Durango, Colo.), David Feasler (Park City, Utah), Thomas Lalli (Bountiful, Utah) and Hong all made appearances. Feasler got the win, pitching 1.2 innings, including a big out in the sixth when Bridgewater was threatening. Hong earned his fourth save of the season, striking out two in the top of the ninth.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, hosting Ithaca College at 2 p.m.
