PASADENA — Dana Michels led with 14 kills, Hana Hunt totaled 10 digs and the Occidental women's volleyball team cruised past Caltech (0-5, 0-1 SCIAC) on the road in its SCIAC opener on Friday,  25-10, 25-13, 25-10.

Stephanie Gann put away six kills on just nine attempts and Alyssa Mort had six on 13 tries.

Oxy (7-2, 1-0 SCIAC) rotated 13 players and served well as a team, scoring 12 aces. Gann had four, Michels and Kandace Korver each had three and Hunt and Madyson Cassidy had one.

After a 13-day layoff since their last match against George Fox on Sept. 7, the Tigers continued their hot start. They posted 3-1 records at the Elmhurst Invitational in the Chicago area and at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational already this year.

It was the first of an important eight-match stretch against SCIAC competition. The Tigers continue conference play against La Verne in their first home match of the year at Rush Gymnasium at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The Leopards, which finished third in the SCIAC at 13-3 last year, have struggled out of the gate this year, starting 3-10 overall and 0-2 in the SCIAC.
