Box Score 2 THOUSAND OAKS —The Occidental women's volleyball team split its matches on the last day of the Cal Lu Fornia Tournament, beating Hendrix in five and losing to George Fox in five. Oxy is now 6-2 as it heads into the SCIAC season at Caltech on Sept. 20.
Match 1: Occidental 3, Hendrix 2
Outside hitter Dana Michels continued her hot streak with 16 kills — her third consecutive match with at least that many — and Stephanie Gann sparked Oxy with clutch block to lead Oxy to a 3-2 win over Hendrix at Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
After Hendrix crawled all the way back from a 2-0 hole, Gann's block gave Oxy the momentum in the second half of the fifth set. All-SCIAC libero Madyson Cassidy made a handful of her 19 digs to help close out the match.
Jessie Altman had a season-high 43 kills.
Oxy's defense started with its serve. Hana Hunt and Kandace Korver forced Hendrix off of the net with tough serves, preventing the Warriors from running offense effectively, according to Oxy head coach Heather Collins.
Match 2: George Fox 3, Occidental 2
Alyssa Mort's 18 kills and Cassidy's 13 digs led a comeback from down 2-0 to 2-2, but the Tigers couldn't overcome the block and middle attack of George Fox.
Oxy's win streak came to an end at five matches.
