Oxy Falls at Pomona-Pitzer, Still in 4th

Box Score

CLAREMONT — It was a forgettable weekend for the Occidental baseball team.

The Tigers got swept by Pomona-Pitzer, missing out on an opportunity to create some breathing room between them and the other three teams vying for the fourth-and-final SCIAC playoff spot.

But the good news for Oxy is that La Verne got swept by Cal Lutheran too, so the Tigers are still in fourth, tied with Redlands at 12-12 in SCIAC. La Verne is 11-12 (with a rainout against Caltech still to be made up) and the Sagehens put themselves back in contention at 11-13 in SCIAC.

Oxy owns the tiebreaker over La Verne and Redlands after taking 2 of 3 from both.

There are four single games left to play that are a part of the regular season before the SCIAC Postseason Tournament begins on May 2.

The Tigers host Caltech and Chapman on April 26, play at Whittier on April 27 and at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on April 29.

Game 1: Pomona-Pitzer 12, Occidental 0 (7 innings)

Lane Miles pitched six scoreless innings and Jake Bruml went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs for the Sagehens.

Oxy scattered nine hits, but few were timely as they were blanked on the scoreboard.

Van Fudge went 2 for 3.

Game 2: Pomona-Pitzer 6, Occidental 2

Bruml threw a complete game without giving up an earned run.

Riley Smith and Devon DeRaad drove in both of Oxy's runs.

The Tigers led until the Sagehens put three on the board in the bottom of the fourth and never relinquished the lead.

Game 3: Pomona-Pitzer 14, Occidental 4 (7 innings)

Bruml went 2 for 3 with 6 RBIs and Kenny Rabin was 4 for 4 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs to lead the Sagehens.

Riley Smith went 3 for 4 with a run scored and Johnathan Brooks was 2 for 3 with a home run.
