Box Score LOS ANGELES — Joseph Kling was solid on the mound, Devon DeRaad blasted another home run, and the Occidental College baseball team defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7-3 on Saturday.
The win puts Oxy at the 20-win mark for the season and 15-10 in the SCIAC. CMS drops to 7-30 overall and 5-21 SCIAC.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, DeRaad drove a pitch over the center field fence for a two-run home run, bringing in Victor Munoz and extending the Tigers' lead to 7-3. The long ball moved DeRaad's SCIAC leading home run total to 12. DeRaad now has the most single season home runs ever for a Tiger on record. DeRaad finished the game 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
DeRaad also pitched three innings of relief with no runs allowed and two strikeouts.
Kling looked equally good for the Tigers giving up no hits through four innings and only two through five. The senior finished the game with three strikeouts in six innings of work.
The Tigers got on the board early scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning off a double by DeRaad that scored Johnathan Brooks and Charlie Caccamo, and a single by A.J. Libunao.
Senior Day: The Tigers honored seniors James Aubrey, Jeffrey Johnson, Chris Strain, Jonathan Wong, Kling, Brooks, Libunao, and Munoz in a pregame ceremony.
Rained Out: The Tigers were scheduled to play Cal Lutheran at 3 p.m. on Saturday, but were rained out with a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning. The game will pick up where it left on Monday at 3 p.m. at Oxy.
The Tigers took the lead off a two-run home run by Johnson, the first of his career for the senior.
