Cooper, Watson Dominant Against Loggers

Box Score

LOS ANGELES — Nolan Watson was solid on the mound, Jamie Cooper hit a two-run home run and the game was never in question as the Occidental baseball team beat Puget Sound 6-2, completing a sweep against the Loggers.

After the results of this weekend's conference games, the Tigers officially claim a spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Today's win gives Oxy 26 on the year, tying the most in head coach Luke Wetmore's tenure — the Tigers reached 26 wins in 2013. Oxy is looking to surpass the program's all time single season wins record of 32 set in 1967.

Watson didn't allow an earned run in five innings pitched, striking out seven batters for the win.

Riley James pitched the final four innings for the Tigers, striking out one and allowing one earned run.

With the Tigers leading 2-0 in the fourth, Bryan Smith got on base with a ground ball single. Cooper brought him home with a deep shot to dead center, extending the Tigers' lead to four.

Devon DeRaad, got the Tigers on the board in the first inning with double to right field, scoring lead-off hitter Brady Fuller

DeRaad finished the series with six hits, six RBIs, five runs scored and a Grand Slam. The Junior, who needs just three home runs to match his Oxy single season record of 13, was named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week.

Eamon McNeil finished with a hit and an RBI. Jake Palumbo and Trevor Lecka each scored a run.

Fuller and Reid Gibbs both grabbed a hit and scored a run. Jack Brancheau got on base with a double.

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 26-5 overall and are currently in first place in the SCIAC at 18-3. Oxy has won 11 in a row and 24 of its last 25.

UPS falls to 15-21 overall.
