Box Score 2 CLAREMONT — The Occidental baseball team beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Game 2 of a SCIAC doubleheader on Saturday, winning the series between the teams 2-1 this weekend.
The Tigers took Game 3, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Oxy's Nolan Watson threw a no-hitter in Game 1 on Friday as the Tigers crushed CMS 16-0 in seven innings, and then CMS countered with a 5-3 victory in the early game on Saturday.
Season Impact: Oxy's record is now 16-8 overall and 9-3 in SCIAC. The Tigers are currently sitting in third, one game back of first place in the loss column.
Oxy has two more wins than any other SCIAC team.
CMS is now 11-10 and 5-4.
The Tigers rallied for five runs in the second inning of Game 2 to take control of the game.
Cade Denyer earned the win, giving up just one earned run in six innings pitched. Riley James closed the game with three scoreless innings for the save.
Jack Brancheau went 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored in the Tigers' win. Oxy catcher Jared Baur went 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored.
Bryan Smith finished the day 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action with an important SCIAC series against first-place La Verne, starting next weekend in La Verne at 3 p.m. on Friday.
The Tigers and Leopards will play a doubleheader at Oxy on Saturday. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 11 a.m.
