Sagehens Use Long Ball to Take Game 2

LOS ANGELES -- The Occidental baseball team was able to even the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Pomona-Pitzer hit a handful a home runs, including one in the eighth and ninth, beating Oxy 5-2 at Anderson Field on Saturday.

Oxy pulled off an impressive comeback to win the first game of the series on Friday.

Tanner Nishioka hit solo home runs in the fifth and the eighth, and Bryce Rogan gave the Sagehens an insurance run with a solo shot in the ninth.

Jack Brancheau and Michael Netzel each went 2 for 2 with a run scored for Oxy. Bryan Smith and Graham Pimm were both 2 for 4.

Nolan McCarthy struck out five batters in 7.2 innings as Oxy's starter.

Jeremy Jess earned the win for Pomona-Pitzer, going 6.2 innings with three earned runs. 

Luka Green picked up the save.

Season Impact: Oxy falls to 22-13 overall and 13-7 in SCIAC play. The Tigers are a half game behind second-place La Verne and a half game ahead of fourth-place Chapman.

Next Game: Oxy finishes its series with the Sagehens with an afternoon game. The Tigers close out the regular season next weekend with a series against Chapman, beginning on Friday at Oxy at 3 p.m.
