Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team fell in a pair of games against Cal Lutheran at Anderson Field on Saturday.
The Tigers beat the defending NCAA Division III champions on the road on Friday, but hit a wall in the seventh inning of Game 1 on Saturday. Oxy led 3-2 and was playing good baseball. Then the Kingsmen jumped in front with a pair of runs and blew the game open in the eighth and ninth with four runs in each inning for a 12-3 victory.
Oxy had five hits in Game 2 and couldn't get much offense going in a 5-0 loss. Michael Netzel, Reid Gibbs, Jack Brancheau, Eamon McNeil and Angelo Zorn all had singles.
Bryan Smith was 2 for 3 with an RBI in Game 1. Gibbs, one of the heroes on Friday with a 4 for 5 three-double performance, added another double in Game 1.
Will Martel started Game 2 and pitched a solid four innings with one earned run against him. Tom Butler was good in relief, going 3.2 innings with no earned runs or walks, three strikeouts and a pair of hits.
Season Impact: Oxy fallls to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in SCIAC.
Cal Lu goes to 8-6 and 3-3.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action against Caltech on Friday.
