LOS ANGELES -- Eamon McNeil was on fire at the plate and the Tigers got outstanding starting pitching as they beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 2-1 in a three-game series over the weekend.
Josh Cohen, Nolan McCarthy and Will Martel all went at least seven innings deep for Oxy in their starts.
Season Impact: Oxy's record goes to 14-9 and 8-4 in SCIAC. The Tigers are in fourth place.
CMS goes to 14-11 and 5-4.
Next Game: The Tigers return to action on Friday for the first game of a three-game series with La Verne at Oxy at 3 p.m.
Game 1: Occidental 7, CMS 3
McNeil hit a pair of homers to left, Oxy ran the bases and the Tigers got the series started on the right note. McNeil finished the game 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Jack Brancheau was 3 for 5 with two doubles, a homer to right, an RBI and two runs, Joey Garza was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles the opposite way, JP Flores was 2 for 4, Dean Abramson was 1 for 3 with a double, and Bryan Smith was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Josh Cohen went seven innings in the winning effort with six strikeouts and two earned runs.
Matthew Geiger gave Oxy two outs in relief and then Michael Netzel moved over from third base for the save with 1.1 scoreless.
Oxy stole seven bases, putting pressure on CMS all game on the bases. Flores and McNeil stole two bases, and Garza, Smith and Reid Gibbs each stole one.
Game 2: CMS 3, Occidental 2
Oxy starter Nolan McCarthy was nails, throwing eight innings with nine strikeouts and just one unearned run as the Tigers fell 3-2 in Game 2.
Jake Fredrickson was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI double.
Game 3: Occidental 11, CMS 2
For the third game in a row, the Tigers got a great effort from their starter in an easy win.
Will Martel went eight innings with just two earned runs. Tom Butler came on to finish it off with an easy scoreless ninth.
McNeil continued his hot weekend, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored. Michael Netzel also had a big game, going 3 for 5 with three RBIs, three runs scored and a double. Bryan Smith went 2 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Dean Abramson went 2 for 5 with an RBI, Reid Gibbs was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, and Jake Fredrickson was 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored.
