Offensive Woes Continue in Loss to Sagehens

Box Score

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team got another solid effort out of Friday starter Josh Cohen, who went eight innings with seven strikeouts and just three earned runs.

But the Tigers' offensive woes continue to be an issue as the Tigers fell 5-2 in an important game against the Sagehens at Anderson Field on Friday.

Cohen's record goes to 5-2 in SCIAC play. He's currently third in the conference with a 2.47 ERA.

Oxy's two runs came on an Eamon McNeil solo homer in the first and when Joey Garza singled in McNeil in the third. Other than that, Oxy's bats remained quiet.

McNeil finished 2 for 4 and Garza was 2 for 3.

After exploding for 26 runs in two games at Pacific (Ore.), the Tigers hit a slump at the wrong time of the season, scoring just five runs in their last five games.

Season Impact: The loss drops Oxy to 17-17 overall and 9-10 in SCIAC. The Tigers are down, but not out of the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament picture if they start stringing together some wins and get some help.

Oxy is chasing fourth-place Chapman at 11-8, who they play next weekend. Whittier at 10-9 and Cal Lu at 8-11 are both hovering in striking distance as well.

The Sagehens improve to 22-12 overall and are at 12-7 for third in the SCIAC.

Next Game: Oxy travels to Claremont for a doubleheader with the Sagehens on Saturday.
