Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental baseball team continued its hot start to the season on Saturday.

The undefeated Tigers beat Whitworth twice, 6-3 and 4-3 at Anderson Field on Saturday.

Oxy improves to 6-0 on the season with some impressive arms and clutch hitting.

Game 1: Occidental 6, Whitworth 3

Nolan McCarthy picked up his second win of the season, going six innings with three earned runs and eight strikeouts. He got help from some solid relief help with Ian Vogenthaler and Louie Kim, who combined for three scoreless innings.

Eamon McNeil went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, including a single that put Oxy in the lead in the third. After Whitworth had got to within one at 4-3, he drove in another run to give Oxy some breathing room.

Bryan Smith went 1 for 4 with a solo home run, Jake Fredickson was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Antonio Andrade was 1 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Game 2: Occidental 4, Whitworth 3

Angelo Zorn hit a solo home run to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, and then Jake Fredrickson singled in Jack Brancheau for a 4-3 walk-off victory.

Whitworth had broken a 2-2 tie in the top half of the ninth, putting Oxy's back against the ropes.

The Tigers continue to get great efforts from their pitching staff. First year Diego Ramirez was outstanding, throwing eight innings with just two earned runs charged against him. He gave up one in the first and one in the third.

Bryce Coyne came on in relief to get three outs in the ninth, earning the victory.

Whitworth had a 2-0 lead until Oxy got two runs back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Bryan Smith and Eamon McNeil stealing home.

McNeil finished the game 2 for 5. Brancheau was 1 for 4 with two runs scored and Smith was 1 for 3.

The Tigers totaled 10 hits as a unit.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, playing Castleton in a home doubleheader.
