Whittier, CA — The visiting Occidental Tigers defeated the Whittier Poets in back to back games on Saturday to complete the series sweep.
The Tigers won the first game 15-11. After trailing 6-8 heading into the 7th inning, Oxy took the lead off of RBIs by Left Fielder Antonio Andrade, Designated Hitter Ari Solomon, and Pinch Hitter Tom Stoodt. The Tigers combined for 14 hits in Saturday's first game compared to 12 for the Poets. Oxy Pitcher Jack Winterbauer pitched for more than four innings to earn the win.
Oxy defeated Whittier in the second game by a score of 10-5. The Tigers took control of the game in the 4th inning when Andrade and Solomon hit back to back RBIs to bring the Tigers up 6-4. A balk later in the inning allowed Solomon to score to bring Oxy up 7-4. Third Baseman Michael Ingram also hit a solo home run in the 6th inning. Oxy Pitcher Justin Hirschberg pitched the whole game and earned the win.
Next Game: Oxy will return home next Saturday for a doubleheader with the Centenary College Gentlemen.
