Newville, PA – The Occidental women's cross country team sent six student-athletes to compete in the 2023 NCAA DIII Pre-Nationals on Saturday. Representing the women were Jenna LeNay, Ciara Gillen, Rosemary Peters, Merrick Hoel, Jade Weggerman, and Mei Mei Bayman.
Sophomore LeNay had a great race and finished in 22nd to earn the top 30 medal with a time of 22:34.1. Gillen and Peters were the next Tigers to cross the finish line in 23:52.4 and 23:53.5, respectively. Of note, Gillen ran a 30-second personal record in the 6K. Hoel was the fourth Tiger to finish in 24:16.8. Next came Weggerman in 24:57.2 and Bayman in 25:08.2. The team came in 20th overall after Mazareth and Gettysburg with 523 points. Amongst the SCIAC schools competing in the race, Oxy fell to CMS, who took first, and Pomona-Pitzer in 12th, but defeated Caltech in 23rd.
