Tigers Drop Game 1 to Blues

Los Angeles, CA -- The Tigers baseball team kicked off their second week of regular season play by hosting Whitman College on Saturday morning.

The first inning saw offense from both teams, with the Blues jumping out to an early 2-0 lead and Oxy answering back on a Tom Stoodt RBI double to score Lou Martineau and make the game 2-1.

The back-and-forth offense continued in the third inning, with the Blues adding another pair of runs and the Tigers answering back via a Jeffery Cambra RBI single to score Stoodt to keep the game in reach at 4-2.

First year Matthew Uytioco was called on in relief for the Tigers in the top of the fifth inning, finishing the game and recording only 2 earned runs across 4.2 total innings pitched.

The Blues had their hands full all game with the Tigers offense.  In addition to Stoodt and Cambra recording a 3 hit game, the Tigers had 4 steals on the day and were threatening to score every inning.  The Tigers fought hard, ending all 9 innings with a runner on base and scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning.

The Blues win Game 1 of the weekend series, 9-7.
