Box Score Los Angeles, CA — The Tigers hosted the CalTech Beavers at Anderson Field on Friday to kick off the 2023 SCIAC Conference Season.
Patrick Connolly made his third start of the season and was effective, going 5 innings and only allowing 1 run while picking up four strikeouts. Connolly was quick to get the Tigers back on offense, and after getting the team back in the dugout in the 2nd inning, senior Ari Solomon hit a 2-run Home Run to left field to score Garrett Palme and give Oxy an early 2-0 lead.
The scoring continued in the 3rd inning with a leadoff double from First-Year Lou Martineau. After stealing third base moments later, Martineau scored on an RBI from Tom Stoodt. In spite of a CalTech rally in the 4th inning, Connolly was able to pitch out of a jam by inducing an inning ending double-play to leave the score at 3-1.
The bottom of the 8th inning saw the Tigers add on to their lead via a 3-run Home Run from Solomon, his second blast of the day completing his 5-RBI performance. With a Jeffery Cambra single and a Jonathan Marshall double to open up the inning, the home run made the score 9-2 in favor of Oxy.
Declan Sklut closed the game out for the Tigers by completing the final four innings of relief. Sklut pitched very well, allowing only 1 earned run in his appearance and leading the Tigers to their first SCIAC victory of the season. Other notable performances from the day include Marshall's 3-4 day with a home run of his own, and Garrett Palme going 2-3 with a walk.
En route to Connolly's first career win and Sklut's first career save, the Tigers defeat the Beavers by a score of 9-6.
