Los Angeles, CA -- The Tigers hosted the Puget Sound Loggers on Sunday for the fourth and final baseball game of the weekend at Anderson Field.
The Loggers used small ball to their advantage in the first inning, with a bunt single and a stolen base leading to them scoring the first run of the game. The lead was quickly met with a solo home run to center field from
Ryan Cacatian, and Oxy had tied the game 1-1 after the second inning.
The fifth inning saw the end of
Patrick Connolly's first career start, only allowing 4 earned over 5 innings to keep the game in reach for the Tigers. Senior
Nolan Upchurch hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to inch closer to Puget Sound.
The Tigers' defense helped the team escape plenty of offensive chances from Puget Sound, the infield recorded four double plays on the day as Upchurch and
Sancho Llamas showed their chemistry at shortstop and second base. Their final double play of the day came in the eighth inning which ended junior
Jon Thoren's strong relief appearance, going 3 innings and only allowing 1 earned run.
Miles Capobianco added to the offensive efforts in the eighth and ninth innings, adding an RBI in each inning to give the Tigers a chance to come back. Alongside Capobianco, Cacatian, Upchurch and
Tom Stoodt each had multi-hit games and contributed to Oxy's offensive presence on Sunday.
The Loggers won the final game of the weekend, 11-5.
