Box Score Los Angeles, CA — The Tigers hosted the Rochester Yellowjackets at Anderson Field Friday to kick off a 3 game home series.
With Lou Martineau leading off the game with a single, the Tigers began to apply pressure on offense. Martineau stole 2nd to put himself in scoring position, and would later score on wild pitch to give Oxy an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers took advantage of the pressure on Rochester by scoring a run the next inning to extend the lead.
After a scoreless 3rd inning, Oxy continued their scoring trend by bringing a run across in the 4th inning courtesy of an Ari Solomon sacrifice fly to score Matthew DiCicco. The 5th inning saw a 2 out rally start with Nolan Upchurch's single to center field, and was capped off by Jonathan Marshall's 2 run home run to left. The home run set a new career high for Marshall and brought the lead to 5 runs.
The Tigers once again capitalized on the pressure their offense caused, scoring Marshall on a bases loaded error in the bottom of the 7th inning to make it a 6-0 ballgame in favor of Occidental. The 6 run lead came as a product of First Year Matthew Uytioco's brilliant performance on the mound, going 7 shutout innings and allowing just 4 hits.
Late rallies by the Yellowjackets in the top of the 8th and 9th innings pushed the game to extra innings, where Oxy's pitching again kept the game close. Wilson Schwegler tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and allowed only 1 hit, while Patrick Connolly threw 2.1 innings and allowed 1 hit and 0 earned runs.
Despite strong performances by each of these Tigers, Rochester's rallies proved to be just enough as the Yellowjackets won the 12 inning thriller 8-7.
