Box Score Los Angeles, CA — The Tigers hosted the La Verne Leopards at Anderson Field on Monday to kick off their second SCIAC series of the season.
Sophomore Dante Tardino turned in a quality start for the Tigers, allowing a run in the 1st inning and 2 in the 2nd inning to give him an impressive statline: 6 inning, 3 runs and only 5 hits allowed on the day. Tardino minimized Leopard threats and allowed 0 runs from the 2nd through the 5th inning to keep the game close.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Tigers came alive to score 4 runs and shorten La Verne's lead, making the score 5-4. Taking advantage of control issues, Tigers drew walks and advanced on wild pitches to create chances to score, which was capitalized on by an Ari Solomon 3-run Home Run. After a double by Lou Martineau, Nolan Upchurch singled to right field to bring home a run and bring the game within 1 run.
The scoring continued for the Tigers in the 8th inning, with a leadoff solo Home Run by Jonathan Marshall to make it a 6-5 ballgame. Marshall's contributions on offense extended beyond the long ball, as he dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Upchurch to 2nd base and create a scoring chance earlier in the game. Another notable performance was Tom Stoodt's, who picked up a hit, turned a double play to end a La Verne scoring opportunity, and stole a conference leading 7th base on the season.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the game was called due to rain and the 9th was never played. The Leopards win the 8 inning game, 6-5.
