Box Score La Verne, CA — The Tigers traveled to La Verne on Tuesday to make up the rained-out doubleheader from the weekend and play Game 2 of their second SCIAC series of the season.
The scoring started early in the game for both teams. Oxy scored 3 in the top of the 1st inning, with their first four batters all reaching base. Lou Martineau hit a leadoff single and would score on a Jeffery Cambra RBI triple to right center field. After Nolan Upchurch was hit by a pitch, Jonathan Marshall hit a 2 RBI double to score Cambra and Upchurch, giving Oxy an early 3-0 lead.
With La Verne finding holes in the field, the score was brought to 3-2 after the 1st inning. Oxy answered back in the top of the 2nd inning with a Matt DiCicco single to get a runner on for Martineau, who doubled to center field to score DiCicco and give the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Oxy would then keep the lead with two shutdown innings from Jack Winterbauer.
The Tigers offense continued to click in the 6th inning; a single from Sancho Llamas and a sacrifice bunt from Nick Gonzalez led to an RBI single up the middle for Ari Solomon. The 6th inning also marked the first inning of work for sophomore Wilson Schwegler, who went 3 innings and only allowed one hit in another strong relief appearance.
In total, the Tigers offense put together 12 base hits in Game 2, but despite the strong offensive showing the Leopards took the win by a score of 9-5.
