Box Score Orange, CA — Oxy baseball traveled to Orange on Sunday to play a rescheduled 3/21 game against Middlebury College. Playing at Hart Park, the Tigers played as the home team and the Panthers were the visiting team.
Defensive miscues and a few errors gave Middlebury plenty of opportunity to score runs early in the game, which they used to their advantage and jumped out to an early lead. After 3 innings, the Panthers led by a score of 14-1.
The 4th inning saw the Tigers play much better baseball, a trend that continued for the remaining game. Declan Sklut came in for relief and gave a great performance. Sklut pitched 4 innings, allowing just 1 run to the Panthers while picking up 4 strikeouts along the way. Riley Holcomb pitched a scoreless 8th and picked up a strikeout during his only inning of work on the day.
The Tigers offense began to pick up in the 5th inning, as Sancho Llamas led off the inning with a single and was moved to 3rd after a Miles Capobianco double to deep left field. Jeffery Cambra then came up to the plate and laced a 2 RBI single to center field, adding to his 2-5 3 RBI line on the day.
In the 6th inning, Jonathan Marshall hit a leadoff homerun to center field to kickstart the offense. With four of the next five batters reaching base, the Tigers scored 2 more runs to shave Middlebury's lead to 14-6. Kyle Sugimoto added to the scoring with a pinch-hit RBI single in the 9th inning to score Christopher Stimming.
Despite the late push from offense, Middlebury's early offense proved to be the difference in the game. The Panthers win Sunday's game at Hart Park, 18-7.
