Box Score Los Angeles, CA — Oxy Baseball hosted the Chapman University Panthers for their series opener on Friday at Anderson Field.
The Tigers' offense was quick to get on the board and wasted no time in doing so, in the bottom of the 1st inning the Tigers put together three consecutive singles, the last by Jonathan Marshall to score Jeffery Cambra, and were up 1-0 with only one out recorded. Later in the inning, Garrett Palme drove home Nolan Upchurch and then Marshall was scored on an RBI double by Lou Martineau. After 1, the Tigers were up 3-0.
The bottom of the 2nd inning started with a walk and a stolen base from Kyle Sugimoto, who came home to score on an RBI single from Cambra. Following Cambra, Upchurch reached on a fielder's choice and scored Ari Solomon to put Oxy up 5-0.
Oxy's offense on Friday was highlighted by Martineau, Solomon, Cambra and Upchurch, all of whom recorded multi-hit games on the day. Another notable performance was from Sugimoto, as the first-year from Torrance, CA, hit his first collegiate home run on a fly ball to deep left field in the 6th inning.
These offensive performances kept the Tigers within range to overtake the Panthers up until the seventh inning. Unfortunately, Chapman's offense took advantage of scoring opportunities in the final two innings and they were able to defeat the Tigers by a score of 15-6.
