Box Score Los Angeles, CA — Oxy Baseball hosted the CMS Stags at Anderson Field on Friday afternoon to open up their 7th conference series of the season.
Offense arrived early for both teams on Friday. CMS came out swinging in the top of the 1st, and Oxy was quick to answer with an RBI single from Jonathan Marshall to score Jeffery Cambra, who reached base on a walk earlier in the inning. After the 1st, the Stags led 4-1.
After a scoreless 2nd for both teams, the Stags put another run across in the top of the 3rd and Oxy answered with 3 runs of their own. Ari Solomon led off the inning with a single and after Nolan Upchurch reached base, Marshall singled to bring home Solomon and make it a 5-2 ball game. Garrett Palme then came up and singled to center to bring home Upchurch and Marshall eventually scored on a wild pitch, making it a 5-4 game in favor of CMS.
After another scoreless streak, Oxy tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th inning. The tie came as a result of Lou Martineau and Sancho Llamas leading off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Martineau was eventually brought home by a sacrifice fly to center field by Solomon.
Notable Tiger performances from Friday include Solomon's 2-3 day with a walk and an RBI, Marshall going 2-4 with a walk and 2 RBIs, Palme's RBI in the 3rd and Martineau going 2-5 with two singles. Patrick Connolly threw a scoreless 8th inning in relief for Oxy while recording a strikeout along the way.
The Stags offense came alive late in the game and gave them a lead that they never let go of. The final score from Friday's game was 13-5 CMS. Oxy travels to Pomona College tomorrow to play 2 more games against CMS to wrap up the conference series.
